RIDGETrail: Recognizing, Inspiring, and Developing Great Educators

In collaboration with the Queen’s Health System, the RIDGETrail program is the CLI’s medical education certificate pathway designed specifically for busy clinical faculty within the UH JABSOM’s affiliated health systems and providers. Unlike traditional faculty development programs, RIDGETrail is tailored for those who do not have ample faculty development opportunities or protected time for medical education roles. Participants engage in a variety of activities that recognize and build upon the teaching they are already doing, including:

  • Flexible Learning Opportunities: Engaging in multimedia modules, podcasts, and other asynchronous learning methods that fit into busy schedules.
  • Teaching Observations: Observing the teaching sessions of peers and providing feedback to enhance collective educational practices.
  • Supervised Teaching: Being observed while teaching in various settings, such as lectures, small groups, or clinical rounds, to receive constructive feedback.
  • Ongoing Teaching Activities: Receiving credit for teaching activities they are already performing, such as mentoring, bedside teaching, and simulation training.

The program emphasizes practical teaching experiences, ensuring participants benefit from a robust exchange of feedback and continuous improvement.

Through RIDGETrail, faculty members gain valuable insights into their teaching. This pathway not only fosters professional growth and recognition but also contributes to the overall improvement of medical education within the health systems affiliated with UH JABSOM. By integrating RIDGETrail into their professional development, clinical educators can significantly enhance their impact on the next generation of healthcare professionals while managing their clinical responsibilities.
