OVERVIEW
This 3.5 day workshop is designed to provide participants with instruction in the practical applications of problem-based learning (PBL) in the context of a medical school curriculum. Using examples from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine’s 30-plus years of experience with PBL, elements of small-group facilitation, case writing, and assessment/evaluation will be covered. Instruction will be in English, and conversational English skills are required. Methods will include lectures, discussions, and small group exercises.
The workshop is open to faculty members from international medical schools that wish to learn more about the “Hawaii Style” model of PBL. The target audience will be those with minimal background in PBL. No prior knowledge of, or experience with, PBL is necessary.
WORKSHOP FACULTY
This workshop will be led by faculty from the Office of Medical Education who are actively involved in designing, leading, teaching, assessing and research at JABSOM.
