About the Program:
The JABSOM Rural Health Program offers medical students with an interest in rural health the opportunity to develop a knowledge base and skill set through experiential learning opportunities in Hawaii’s rural communities. Physician shortages are greatest in rural neighbor islands areas and the Rural Health Program aims to help alleviate this by increasing interest in rural health and providing students with training specifically aimed at contributing to the health care needs of rural communities.

JABSOM students have opportunities throughout all four years of medical school to complete pre-clinical units and clinical rotations on:
The Kaua’i Medical Training Track is a longitudinal rural training track centered on the island of Kaua’i. This track consists of six students within each incoming JABSOM class who are committed to training and eventually practicing medicine on Kaua’i.
Students with significant interest in rural health may also pursue the Dean’s Certificate of Distinction in Rural Health.
